Autumn Home Decor

I’ve always decorated for the seasons. There’s something about walking into someone’s home and seeing it all dressed up in the oranges and browns, pumpkins and scarecrows that gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling that Fall brings!

I never grew up with our house decked out for the seasons and I knew that was something I really wanted to do for my family. Like I said, it brings a feeling like no other. I like to decorate every room so that when my kids come home from school they really had the feeling of the holiday.

There is a few traditions that I keep throughout each season that I want to share with you.

Thanksgiving is all about being thankful. I set out a little gratitude jar somewhere in the house a few weeks before Thanksgiving dinner every year. Along with the jar I have a little notepad and pen so that my family is reminded of the things that they are thankful for and it encourages them to write them down and place them in the jar. Every year at dinner we sit down and read through everything my family is grateful for. I think that is a really important thing to keep in mind all year around, not just around this season. What are you thankful for?

No matter the holiday, I always have a way of decorating the table. I have themed napkins at every plate, a popper for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years, and usually some sort of goodie bag or item for the grandkids. I love to decorate with napkins because it’s something that is so minimal and inexpensive but can add so much colour and that feeling of Fall!

You can almost always find candy to go with the holiday any time of year. I fill jars with different holiday candies and spread them throughout the house. My kid’s love to go hunting for different ones whenever they need a sugar fix!

Family is the most important thing to me, and there’s nothing like the holidays to bring your family together, and why not make it better by setting the mood be decking out the atmosphere! Is decorating the house something you do for the holidays? If it’s not I encourage you to stop at your local dollar store and pick up a few things to try it one year! Trust me you’ll be hooked and decorating every year just like me!
